5 of Australia's Best Boho Brands- Women's Clothing & Accessories- Sustainably & Ethically Produced

Updated: Aug 7

What I mean by 'The best boho brands' is those that produce high quality beautiful clothing with sustainable and ethical production in mind and at the heart of their values as a company. Australia have some of the best & most beautiful boho brands out there. I'm aware that many other countries have some awesome high quality boho brands also which I will write about in future, but for now the following are the ones that I'm most familiar with and highly regard.

Most of the boho clothing online boutique stores listed here are based in Australia, some have physical stores, some don't, you can gain insight on this via the company's official website. These boutique stores offer international shipping & have international stockists.

Interestingly what most of these boho clothing brands have in common is that the founders lived a gypsy life style as children and the prints, styles & details draw upon inspiration from such life experience. It seems that this aspect being at the heart of creation is what makes the resulting clothing so interesting, such good quality, and inspires a driving force to produce clothing that's environmentally friendly and kind to production partners and the makers.

Arnhem clothing is a super eco friendly boho brand that produces predominantly bright & bold floral prints, soft & earthy tones are also commonly used. As well as women's clothing Arnhem clothing also produce small ranges of shoes & accessories, men's, kid's & infant's clothing.

Chasing Unicorns

Chasing Unicorns is a unique brand and company in many ways, and it's about as high end and exclusive as they come in regards to boho fashion brands. All of the clothing from this brand is handmade and quantities are very limited, on average only 20 pieces per style are produced, sometimes more, and in some cases much less.

Much of the styles produced by Chasing Unicorns draw on vintage inspiration and include intricate embroidery, crochet and lace detailing. This is definitely an online store to consider if you're looking for something really special and exclusive.

As well as women's clothing Chasing Unicorns occasionally produce a small amount of men's styles, and offer genuine vintage pieces. Sample sales are sometimes on offer, and they also stock a small range of jewelry from other brands.

Chasing Unicorns aim to use mostly natural fibres and organic cotton, and all clothing is handmade by a small group which helps to ensure supply transparency.

Chasing Unicorns has no stockists and no physical store, you can only buy direct through the official online store.

Spell & The Gypsy Collective

Spell Designs - Lolita cut out gown

Spell Designs is probably the most popular Australian boho brand for women's clothing & accessories. Busy & complicated floral prints are a repeated theme, billowy styles with lots of fabric, cut out details, frills and tassels are often incorporated.

Spell And The Gypsy Collective release on average 6-8 collections a year which usually include dresses, skirts, blouses, intimates, T-shirts, singlets & camis, pants, shorts, scarf, and kimonos. Occasionally a collection will also include a jacket, jersey, coat, swimwear, bags, footwear & jewelry. Also a bridal collection is usually released once a year, and there's the occasional infants and kids collection, (as well as!) extra special super limited edition releases.

Spell designs endeavor to use natural plant fibres and recycled materials in their fabrics and packaging and are increasingly developing more sustainable fabrics. Also contributing to environmental causes, 1% of all sales are donated to the 1% For The Planet organization. In depth information in regards to sustainability & ethics is available via the official site.
